Wettable Powder (WP)
Wettable Powder (WP) is a powdered pesticide formulation that is mixed with water to form a suspension prior to spraying.
WP formulations contain one or more active ingredients blended with inert carriers, diluents, and surfactants. Wetting agents are included to facilitate the dispersion of particles in water. Dispersants are added to prevent flocculation of the mixture before use, ensuring that the particles remain uniformly dispersed throughout the spraying process.
WP – an optimal choice thanks to its key advantages
Despite its advantages, WP formulations still have certain limitations
Key principles for developing a WP (Wettable Powder) formulation
The production of WP formulations is a dry process consisting of several key steps. First, the solid active ingredient is finely milled (if necessary), then blended with additives such as wetting agents to improve water penetration and dispersants to prevent particle agglomeration during dilution. The mixture is then further milled to achieve the required particle size, typically below 45 microns. After milling, the powder is sieved to remove oversized particles and then packaged in suitable containers. Because the process is entirely dry, no drying step is required, reducing energy consumption and production costs. The final product is a fine powder that disperses easily in water and shows minimal sedimentation during storage.
